She defended her Ph.D. thesis in 2001 at Trakia University and 2006 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. The projects were related to PK-PD modeling of fluoroquinolones in poultry. She has more than 95 articles in internationally refereed journals. Her main research line concerns the pharmacokinetics of antibacterial drugs and ABC transporter proteins.
