Since 2011, Els Broens is head of the Veterinary Microbiological Diagnostic Center of Utrecht University. Besides that, she is principal investigator within the division of Infectious Diseases & Immunology and involved in several research projects on zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship. She is member of the Dutch Signaling Forum Zoonoses and The Dutch Working Party on Antibiotic Policy. Els is chair of the ESCMID Study Group for Veterinary Microbiology and de facto Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology. Her research interest is primarily focused on veterinary antimicrobial stewardship and improvement of veterinary clinical microbiology, including the challenges of implementing metagenomics.
