Dr Dorina TIMOFTE

Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Microbiology and Head of the Microbiology Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Liverpool, UK

The quality of our diagnostic activity and the training of the next generation of veterinary clinical microbiologists is key for safeguarding antibiotics for the future

Originally from Romania, where she took her DVM and PhD at Iasi Veterinary School, Dorina moved to the UK 16 years ago and since 2009, she is the academic leading the Veterinary Microbiology Diagnostic service at Liverpool School of Veterinary Science. Dorina is Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Veterinary Microbiology and Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM) and has established the first European Residency Training Centre and training programme in veterinary microbiology. Dorina`s research interests include surveillance and molecular epidemiology of multidrug-resistance in clinical and environmental bacteria from companion animals. She is Chair of the Biosecurity and Infection Control Committee at the Liverpool School of Veterinary Science and has a particular research interest in the epidemiology of healthcare associated infections in human and veterinary hospitals.
